This week, We caught up with Content Specialist, Greer McNally. She recently joined our Marketing Team to help expand our content offering. Keep reading to hear about her experiences so far.
What attracted you to your chosen career path?
I guess I’ve always been in love with words. As a child I was either permanently scribbling stories or had my head in a book, so it only seemed natural that I would go into a career where I would be writing for a living. I also find people often open up when I interview them - and it’s wonderful listening to the stories they have to tell. Being allowed to take their words and turn it into content everyone can enjoy is a real privilege.
What has been your proudest (or most accomplished) moment of your time with Foods Connected so far?
That’s a tough one, because I haven’t been here too long, but there are two instances that do spring to mind. The first was my first piece of topical blog content reacting to Rishi Sunak’s Farm to Fork Summit at Downing Street in May. It was a fast-turnaround piece and I really didn’t want to get anything wrong. But the whole Marketing team supported me, and we delivered it on time with positive results.
The second was our case study shoot at Finnebrogue Artisan - my first for Foods Connected. Again, we all came together to put each interviewee at their ease and deliver a compelling story about our relationship working with the brand.
Tell us something not many people would guess about you?
It’s hard to know what to choose – I was smacked in the face with a swing when I was four and nearly lost an eye, I'm named after my mother, I have four tattoos... oh and I haven’t eaten meat since I was thirteen (well, there was one instance where my cousin mixed up Quorn and chicken, but my face immediately revealed her mistake).
What advice would you give those looking to kick start a career at Foods Connected?
Apply! This is a brilliant place to work. I joined without a great deal of knowledge around the sector, but everyone has been so encouraging and I’m learning fast. Becoming more sustainable is so important to our society, so working for a company that helps with that is really rewarding. Since joining I’ve also done a sponsored 8-mile walk and volunteered at a food poverty charity. Team really is everything here – and that means a lot.
What are you most looking forward to at Foods Connected in 2023?
The Foods industry is changing and we’re evolving with it. I want to get to the heart of the issues that affect our customers and tell their stories in a variety of formats.
But we’re also growing – not just in the food arena, but beyond. I’m really excited to see how we embrace the textiles, racing and medical sectors, creating compelling content that introduces our big supply chain solutions to a brand new audience.
