This week we met up with Tony Finlay – Foods Connected's Lead User Experience Designer to find out what attracted him to a career in UX, his proudest moment at Foods connected and what he’s most looking forward to in 2022!
- What attracted you to your chosen career path?
If I’m honest, I stumbled into UX rather than chose it as a career path, at least initially. In my early days as a designer, I was blissfully unaware of how unusable some of my designs were, as the only “UX" performed was seeing if the customer was happy with how the thing looked.
It was only until I started working at a company with a support desk, that I realised how important UX was, luck would have it that I enjoyed the UX process and the problem-solving nature at the heart of it.
- What has been the proudest moment (or most accomplished moment!) of your time with Foods Connected so far?
Probably seeing our strategy of growing the UX maturity of the business starting to gain traction, the fact that everyone at FC is so open to the ideas we've been sharing makes that a lot easier.
- Tell us something not many people would guess about you.
I can play a few instruments and do a bit of DIY, neither of them particularly well.
- What advice would you give those looking to kick start a career at Foods Connected?
Don’t let the name fool you!
It’s not just the food industry we work in, the company is currently growing into other industries and markets, so reach out to someone who works here and see if there’s anything that interests you.
Shameless plug, as part of the UX team, you'll have the opportunity to work across our entire product suite & work with some of the world’s most successful companies.
- What are you most looking forward to in the next year?
I would say getting our design system up and running is something I'm excited about - it'll bring continuity in terms of cosmetic design and usability, but it also marks the first step on our journey towards delivering an overarching service design which will benefit both, customers and Foods Connected employees alike.
